Greg Van Der Gaast

Infamous hacker turned undercover FBI operative turned security thought-leader focusing on business and people-centric approaches

Greg started in security as a teenage hacker, once compromising a nuclear weapons facility earning him the title of one of the world’s notorious hackers. His 25-year career has however been focused on building effective assurance as an advisor, author, and CISO.

Strangely to some, he is a staunch critic of how information security is currently practiced, highlighting its continued failures and how it is in some ways causing more harm than good by ignoring the true causes of problems and the industry being lacking in terms of strategy, business-alignment, and leadership.

He now speaks, writes, and consults on how we can approach things differently to provide greater benefit to our organisations and the world.
