Phil Layton is Technical Service Director at JCB, the world’s third largest manufacturer of construction equipment by volume. Before joining JCB, Phil held senior roles within the first tier of the automotive supply chain, where he gained extensive experience in complex manufacturing environments and supply‑chain management.

During his 14 years at JCB, Phil has held a wide range of responsibilities, including positions in advanced engineering, project management, electrics and controls, and engineering leadership. His expertise has played a key role in driving technical innovation across the Group and delivering successful projects that have strengthened JCB’s reputation for product excellence.

Phil was promoted to his current role in late 2025, having previously served three years as JCB’s Group Engineering Director.

He also spent three years of his JCB career with JCB India, based at the Group’s headquarters near New Delhi. Between 2018 and 2020, as Executive Vice President – Engineering, Phil oversaw the introduction of next‑generation engine emissions technologies to BS4 and CEV5 standards, while leading the India‑based engineering function to ensure JCB’s technical leadership and regulatory compliance in the market.

Prior to joining JCB, Phil spent 18 years at Kostal, a German family‑owned global manufacturer of automotive electronic and mechatronic systems, industrial solutions, and energy‑management technologies. His roles at Kostal included R&D, design, product development, and quality assurance.
