Dr Jarosław Pietras

Visiting Professor at the College of Europe and a Senior Research Associate at the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies

Dr. Jaroslaw Pietras is currently a Visiting Professor at the College of Europe in Bruges and a Senior Research Associate at the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies in Brussels. He is also an expert of Center for International Relations in Warsaw. Previously, he served as the Director General of the Council of the European Union, overseeing areas such as Climate Change, Environment, Transport, Telecom, Energy, Education, Culture, Audio-visual, Youth, and Sport. From 1990 to 2006, he held various positions within the Polish Government, including Secretary of State in the Ministry of Finance, Secretary of State for Europe, and Head of the Office of the Committee for European Integration. He also served as the deputy chief negotiator for Poland's accession to the EU.

Dr. Pietras earned his PhD in Economics from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Warsaw in 1986 and has authored numerous publications on EU and trade issues. He has been teaching international economy and trade policy at the University of Warsaw for many years. Additionally, he has been a Fulbright Foundation scholar at DUKE University in North Carolina, USA, and has been involved with the think-tank BRUEGEL, dedicated to international economics based in Brussels. He has also been a scholar at the Center for European Policy Studies in Brussels. Furthermore, he is a Fellow Practitioner at the Sussex European Institute at the University of Sussex, UK.
