CECE and fellow manufacturers warn of risks from proposed steel rules
CECE has joined other European steel-using industries in voicing concerns regarding the European Commission’s proposed new steel safeguard measures.
While tackling global overcapacity remains important, the current proposal risks weakening the competitiveness of Europe’s downstream manufacturing sectors. Potential impacts include higher steel prices, limited access to specialised inputs, and increased administrative burdens, particularly for SMEs.
CECE therefore calls on EU policymakers to carefully reconsider the design of the measure and to ensure that the perspectives and needs of steel-using industries are fully taken into account.
