CECE Decarbonisation Task Force paves the green path forward

Last week, CECE held the second meeting of its Decarbonisation Task Force (CO2TF). The meeting was attended by 22 participants working for a variety of Original Equipment Manufacturers and representing their national trade associations.

The CO2TF predominantly discussed existing practices of Product Carbon Footprint calculation. Edwin Heemskerk (Bosch Rexroth AG) was invited as a guest speaker in order to introduce the CO2TF to the work which he carries out as part of the standard project (‘Earth-moving machinery - Test methods for energy use’) under ISO/TC 127/SC 1/WG 6. An extensive Q&A session took place afterwards.

CO2TF Secretary, Mathias Amselle, went on to present the key takeaways from North American Association of Equipment Manufacturers' (AEM) paperOff-Road Greenhouse Gas Protocol for Scope 3 Category 11’, while introducing the members on the broader work of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. AEM paper was developed with the aim of encouraging uniformity and harmonization among non-road equipment manufacturers and their supply chains, seeking to calculate emissions pertaining to use phase Scope 3 Category 11.

CECE discussions surrounding life-cycle assessment (LCA) of non-road mobile machinery will continue as another guest speaker to will be invited to share expert insight into LCA methodologies. The CO2TF will also pursue its review of alternative fuels for construction equipment.
