CECE keeps following negotiations for a trade deal with Australia
The EU is Australia's third largest trading partner. Australia is an important market also for the European construction equipment sector.
The EU and Australia launched negotiations for a trade agreement in June 2018.
The 11th round of negotiations took place in June 2021. Following the decision of Australia to cancel a $40 billion contract with France to build a fleet of conventional submarines in the so called AUKUS scandal, the 12th round of negotiations was postponed twice and it won’t take place before the end of February 2022.
CECE supports the negotiation for a trade deal with Australia which should significantly reduce trade barriers in construction equipment. For this reason, CECE will keep monitoring and engaging with the Commission to ensure that the agreement brings tangible benefits to the European construction equipment sector.
