CECE Technical Week – last meeting of the year
From 6th to 8th December, CECE held the “Technical Week” quarterly meetings, gathering the technical experts nominated by CECE members working in the active Project Teams (PTs) and in the CECE Technical Commission (TC).
PT Noise, PT Road and PT Engine Emissions & Alternative Fuels meetings did not take place during the December Technical Week due to the lack of significant developments on the respective files. The Technical Week started with the discussion on environmental files where PT3R members exchanged about the new F-gas regulation proposal, updated on the REACH review process and restrictions, and evaluated possible advocacy actions for the Ecodesign Sustainable Product Regulation (ESPR) proposal. PT Electrification met in person for the first time and continued its work on the definition of activities and the prioritisation of actions.
As regards the Project Team on European Data Policy (PT Data), members were reported on the advocacy actions related to the Data Act, including the update of the state of play, the publication of the CECE position paper, and the work on recommendations for amendments. The group also evaluated the amendments tabled by the European Parliament. Regarding the cybersecurity update, the discussion focused on the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) proposal since the group, in coordination with PT Machinery, identified main concerns of the legal text. In addition, PT Data was informed about the latest development in the Artificial Intelligence Act.
During PT Machinery, members discussed the CECE advocacy for the revision of the Machinery Directive in light of the trialogue meetings, which are heading towards their end. Members were also informed about the latest developments on the European standardisation policy as well as on electrical and electronic-related matters. The group also discussed the recent CECE involvement in the Cyber Resilience Act and the Artificial Intelligence Act, which represent cross-cutting initiatives relevant to both CECE groups: PT Data and Machinery.
During a tailored session in the technical commission meeting, Ms. Raluca Stefanuc, Policy Officer working in DG CONNECT (EC) on cybersecurity policies, was invited to present the CRA proposal. Members were informed of the key aspects of the draft regulation and raised specific questions on the products in scope and the timeframe-related issues for the implementation of the CRA in the machinery industry.
Finally, during the Technical Commission’s meeting, participants received a regulatory update on Brexit and trade issues.
The next technical week will take place in Brussels from 6th to 9th March 2023.
