Ecodesign and Energy labelling working plan 2020-2024 – roadmap published

Last 5th May the EU Commission published the roadmap on the Ecodesign and energy labelling working plan 2020-2024. The EU Ecodesign and energy labelling policies regulate the environmental performance of energy-related products on aspects related to energy consumption, water consumption, emission levels and material efficiency and they contribute to the objectives of the European Green Deal.

The working plan sets out the products of interest for new regulations and the planning for reviews of existing ones. The following products are considered for 2020-2024: professional laundry appliances, professional dishwashers, professional cooking appliances, low temperature emitters, swimming pool heaters, small network equipment for home and office use, enterprise network equipment, universal external power supplies, uninterruptible power supplies and industrial smart sensors. Apart from that, the roadmap introduces cross-cutting aspects as lightweight design, recycled content, ecological profile, durability, firmware and software and scarce and critical raw materials.

The Ecodesign Directive is a relevant policy for the construction machinery as many energy related machine’s components are in its scope. Moreover, it is of interest for CECE members to understand how the cross-cutting aspects of the working plan will be addressed in the new EU Commission proposal which is planned for third quarter of 2021.
