President Junker has declared to be “proud of our core industry” but, at the same time, has outlined the necessity of a new industrial strategy for Europe. A Europe which is now “in the 5th year of the economic recovery” and needs to build on the momentum to invest in growth towards new horizons, always guided by three fundamental values: freedom, equality of opportunity and rules of law.

Junker pointed out the importance of reinforcing the European trade programme, which means creating more jobs and more opportunities for people and companies. In the light of this, he has announced both the implementation of existing trade agreements and the “launch of free trade negotiations with Australia and New Zealand”.

The President mentioned also the single market, key point of the free and competitive trade, which can be implemented, even without changing treaties. “The wind is back in Europe’s sails - stated Junker - We now have a window of opportunity but it will not stay open forever”.
