Working for the next 4 years, this new Parliament Intergroup aims at promoting the multifaceted dimensions of industrial competitiveness and sustainable investments. Following the key priorities of the new European Commission – represented by a new Industrial Strategy and the Green Deal – the Intergroup aims at becoming the discussion platform for these issues within the European Parliament.

CECE Secretary General Riccardo Viaggi said: “CECE warmly welcomes the establishment of this Intergroup. We wish to thank MEP Patrizia TOIA for trusting us since the beginning of the campaign for a new Intergroup. My warmest congratulations to MEP Maria da Graça CARVALHO for her dedication and for ensuring the EPP’s support to this project. We look forward to giving our contribution as Secretariat of the Intergroup.

Indeed, CECE and Orgalim – supported by other EU industry associations – led the final campaign moments for the establishment of the Intergroup in autumn to secure the highest number of votes by the political groups. In light of that, CECE will be part of the Intergroup Secretariat.

Since the beginning of the campaign for the 2019 EU elections CECE has been promoting the establishment of an Intergroup on industrial competitiveness. This was indeed a key element of the CECE Elections Manifesto as well as a tangible objective of the Industry4Europe coalition paper on Governance.

The Bureau of the Intergroup is composed of three Co-chairs: Simona Bonafè (S&D), Maria da Graça Carvalho (EPP) and Dominique Riquet (Renew). A considerable number of MEPs decided to join the Intergroup as well.

A promising program of activities and public events will be revealed in the coming weeks.
