New European Commission takes office with a focus on green and competitive growth

The new European Commission has officially commenced its term, introducing significant leadership for its Green Deal and competitiveness agendas. Key appointments include Teresa Ribera as Executive Vice-President for Clean, Just, and Competitive Transition and Stéphane Séjourné as Executive Vice-President for Prosperity and Industrial Strategy.

Ribera is expected to leverage her extensive negotiation experience to drive just transitions and competitive reforms, while Séjourné’s expertise in European diplomacy will play a critical role in implementing industrial strategies and boosting EU autonomy in the global market.

This leadership change coincides with the announcement of new EU grants aimed at advancing electrification and renewable energy systems. With a total of €4.6 billion in funding, the initiatives focus on accelerating the transition to a sustainable energy future, addressing industrial competitiveness and enhancing energy security.

The new Commission's leadership is well-positioned to deliver on these priorities, fostering a greener and more resilient European economy.
