CECE has its say on the future of the Machinery Directive

CECE answered and published its position on the European Commission’s (EC) Open Public Consultation on the revision of the Directive 2006/42/EC on machinery.

From the beginning, our goal was to provide a unified and consolidated answer as an industry association that would represent the reality of the construction equipment industry across Europe. Therefore, our members have been discussing the 164-question long document over different meetings and managed to reach an agreement on many different topics.

CECE's answer include our view on:

  • how machinery manuals should be delivered,
  • estimates on costs for the printed manuals,
  • difficulties our manufacturers face when selling machines to other countries,
  • Partly Completed Machinery (PCM),
  • Cybersecurity,
  • Artificial Intelligence and robotics
  • relation between the Machinery Directive and other pieces of legislation, such as the Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU.

In parallel, in the framework of the impact assessment study for the revision of the Machinery Directive, CECE has been contacted by the EC’s consultant to participate in a semi-structured interview aimed at further developing our answers from the public consultation. CECE members are preparing the answers and main messages based on the public consultation and further developing our point of view on specific issues, such as Partly Completed Machinery (PCM) and the Annex IV on categories of machinery.

For the next steps, we will share the CECE position to the public consultation with all of our members so that they can use it as guidelines when answering. Stakeholders have until end of 30th August at midnight to provide an answer to the questionnaire.

The full position paper is available on the CECE website.
