CECE Mining participates in GMG Forum in Kiruna
On 12th and 13th March, Mining Public Affairs Manager – Enrico Borella – represented CECE Mining in the GMG Forum organized by GMG, Global Mining Guidelines Group, and hosted by LKAB inside their Kiruna iron ore mine.
The forum saw the participation of a diverse audience from mining companies, equipment suppliers, industry experts and R&D institutions (universities) and was moderated by Laura Mottola and Andrew Scott from GMG.
Surrounded by the impressive setting of Kiruna mine Visitor Center located 500 metres underground, participants learned about sustainable mining practices in the Nordics, challenges in decarbonization of equipment and secrets for success in multi-stakeholder collaboration projects.
On 14th March a selected group of participants had the chance to visit the production level of the mine at 1365 m below ground. The group was able to observe operations in the control room, where mining equipment is operated remotely, and to visit the underground rail terminal used to transport the ore.
Aside for the excellent program, interaction and networking opportunities at the Forum, it was a fantastic chance to witness what sustainable and efficient mining looks like in practice. Equally, it was a great opportunity for CECE Mining to connect and explore avenues of cooperation with GMG and CECE Mining looks forward to possible future collaboration with them.
