bauma CHINA 2018 exceeds expectations
bauma CHINA in Shanghai has become a success story since its first event in 2002. This year’s edition, with its grand 330.000 m² of exhibition space that included two new halls, had 3.350 exhibitors from 38 countries and regions - an increase of 13 percent compared with the preceding exhibition year, and attracted 212.500 visitors. The numbers surpassed expectations of the organisers.
“In the exceptional market environment in China this year, bauma CHINA demonstrated why it has every reason to be called the leading trade fair for the Asian construction machinery market. It set records in all areas. bauma CHINA clearly showed where this industry is heading: Smart, digital and more sustainable technologies are the future. We, the organizers from Messe München, are really proud of this opportunity to help shape the future” said Stefan Rummel, Managing Director of Messe München underlining the satisfaction of trade fair’s results.
A strong presence of Chinese companies in the market reflected the number of Chinese exhibitors during the fair - 73 percent. All in all, the fair had an international character with 8 international pavilions: German, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, American, two Korean and for the first time a European pavilion. bauma CHINA attracted 25 percent more visitors compared to previous edition and served as a trendsetter of intelligent, digital and green products for the Asian market. Electromobility and driverless vehicles were seen as the future trend at bauma CHINA 2018.
CECE, as representative of the European construction machinery industry, supported the fair in the name of the European manufacturers within the framework of CECE Exhibition Partnership Programme. Riccardo Viaggi, CECE Secretary General spoke at the opening ceremony in Shanghai on 27 November 2018 and focused on the performance of the European construction machinery industry, presenting the positive market conditions in Europe: “The turbulences and the uncertainties that we are facing already have not tarnished the positive market conditions in Europe”. Riccardo underlined that European manufacturers are interested in long-term business relationships with Asian customers. “Bauma China represents a showcase of the Asian construction machinery sector, as well as an opportunity between the Asian countries and Europe”. Riccardo stressed the importance of fostering the international relationship between major construction equipment associations within the International Associations Committee. “Competition is a driver for the type of constant innovation that we see in the industry, as showcased during this fair” Riccardo continued. By giving room to innovation, especially in the field of digitalisation, currently one of the dominant themes of the sector, we facilitate trade, development and wellbeing. To do this, we must build mutual trust through occasions of dialogue.
CECE is happy we could be part of this important industry event and we are looking forward to the next editions. The next bauma CHINA will be held at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre from November 24 to 27, 2020.
