CECE hosts associations from around the world at bauma

High-level delegations of the construction equipment associations in Korea, India, Japan, the United States and Europe met for the International Association Committee (IAC) meeting during bauma last month.

The IAC members had the opportunity to meet for the first time since 2019. The delegations shared information on the main regulatory and policy developments in their respective country/region, as well as market and economic trends, and discussed various other matters of common interest. Exchange of views on sustainability and emission norms was an important point on IAC's agenda. Associations updated participants on this global trend with different regional approaches.

Delegation from India shared the updates on the evolution of emission legislation in their country, which should come into force in the few years to come. Colleagues from ICEMA have also shared that the construction activity in India is estimated to grow at the end of this year. Likewise, CEMA, the Japanese construction equipment manufacturers association gave an overview of good market conditions in Japan. Prediction for 2023 is positive in terms of local and international sales.

Delegation from AEM, the US Association of Equipment Manufacturers gave participants an overview of challenges related to the workforce that the North-American construction equipment sector is facing. Nonetheless, the construction and farming sectors are in a positive economic trend overall.

Representatives of KOCEMA, the Korean construction equipment manufacturers association, presented challenges that the Korean manufacturers are facing with production connected to the lack of raw materials, and also connected to the geopolitical situation. Domestic demand is expected to continue on a stable level this year but decrease in 2023.

CECE has expressed similar challenges connected to the geopolitical situation and severe supply chain disruptions that the European construction equipment manufacturers are facing. We have also reported on the great political success for CECE and its members, the postponement of the transition period of Stage V, back in 2020.

IAC meeting with leaders of the global associations is a great opportunity for exchange on latest business and economic trends and also an important platform for global joint actions, that will be discussed during IAC's next meeting. Members have agreed to join forces on relevant topics like sustainability and workforce issues.

Thank you to all IAC members for this valuable exchange, we are happy to have welcomed the meeting participants in Europe.

The next meeting will take place at CONEXPO in Las Vegas.
