EU NEWS: European Council on Brexit - second phase to start soon

BRUSSELS - On 15 December the European Council agreed that Brexit negotiations can enter their second phase, as in accordance with the previously agreed guidelines.

This second phase, aimed at defining the conditions of the future EU-UK relationship will include talks about a transitory two-years period, during which the UK will continue to participate in the Customs Union & Single Market. At the end of the process, it will no longer be involved in the European treaties on trade, and Europe will find a new strategy to ensure “a balance of rights and obligations”.

Waiting for additional guidelines, foreseen for March 2018, uncertainty remains, and the consequences of this change are unpredictable. CECE will follow closely the issue and the possible impact on construction equipment sector.
