Recovery central to the Portuguese Presidency of the Council
From 1st January to 30th June 2021 Portugal will be at the helm of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The Portuguese Presidency happens during a particularly difficult time, with the COVID-19 pandemic and its social and economic consequences posing an unprecedented challenge for the EU and its Member States.
Against this background, the Portuguese presidency will work on three major priorities:
- To promote Europe's recovery, leveraged by the climate and digital transitions.
- To implement the Social Pillar of the European Union as a key element for ensuring a fair and inclusive climate and digital transition.
- To strengthen Europe’s strategic autonomy keeping it open to the world.
